President Trump will visit MacDill Air Force Base this Monday. He is set to receive briefings from U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command. The President will lunch with service members and deliver remarks. The visit will be his first official visit to MacDill Air Force Base.

The president will spend the weekend at Mar-a-Lago based resort in Palm Beach this weekend and stay through Monday morning. He’ll visit MacDill before he returns to Washington.

President Trump via the recent raid in Yemen has gotten on-the-job exposure to SOCOM, and its capabilities. That experience, and his policy to defeat ISIL, make his upcoming visit to Tampa meaningful. This visit comes days after the raid that sadly took the life of Navy SEAL, Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens.

The raid and POTUS’s decision clearly had an effect on President Trump who traveled to Dover Air Force Base to greet the body of the fallen. It was an honorable gesture, meant a lot, and hopefully indicates a deep appreciation of Special Operation Forces and their mission abroad.

This is a critical time for Special Operations Forces as the war on terror is at a nearing a high in operational demand. President Trump may seek to increase SOCOM funding, along with the funding for research and development labs to create tools and systems to make SOF operations more accurate and safe.
