Today’s SOFREP Pic of the Day highlights one of the innocent victims of war.

In a recent development, Hamas has released a video featuring an Israeli woman, 21-year-old Miya Schem, who was reportedly taken hostage during the October 7 attacks. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of over 1,300 lives and triggered the conflict in Gaza, with around 200 individuals reportedly being held hostage during the incidents.

Mother Pleads for Her Daughter’s Release

The video, released by Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, shows Miya Schem with her arm wrapped in bandages, indicating she had suffered an injury. In her statement, she identified herself as being from Sderot, a small Israeli city near the Gaza border. She explained that she was attending the Supernova Sukkot Music Festival on Kibbutz Re’im when Hamas operatives attacked the event. Tragically, at least 260 people at the music festival lost their lives, and Miya, along with others, was taken hostage. As of this writing, 13 Americans remain unaccounted for, and it is believed that at least some of them are being held hostage by the terrorist organization.

In the video, Miya receives medical attention for her injury, and she mentions undergoing a three-hour surgery. You can see the results of that procedure in our photograph. She expresses her desire to be reunited with her family as soon as possible. As can be seen from the video of her mother above, the feelings are mutual.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed Miya’s abduction and stated that they are in contact with her family and actively working on securing her release. The IDF has also condemned Hamas, describing them as a terrorist organization responsible for various acts of violence and abduction.

Miya’s family, who are French citizens, had previously appealed to France President Emmanuel Macron for assistance in securing the release of their relatives. This situation remains ongoing, with efforts being made to ensure the safe return of Miya Schem and all of the other hostages.
