On Today’s Show: SOFREP contributing editor Bill Janson
Bill is a former Recon Marine who served with 2d Recon Bn in the late 90’s. His time in reconnaissance was spent as a primary radio operator/team communicator and an assistant team leader. He was also a Recon Indoctrination Instructor, who prepares and trains candidates for the rigors of serving on a recon team.
His formal military schooling includes US Marine Amphibious Reconnaissance School, US Army Ranger School, French Army Amphibious Commando Course and the basic Airborne Course. His military career was cut short when a parachute jump ended in high-tension power lines and he shattered both of his wrists.
After leaving the Marine Corps, Bill spent seven years in the private sector as a Creative Director/Division President for an online marketing firm in Cleveland, Ohio. Once the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began, he left the comfort of his desk job to go back to his “old life” and get dirty. Bill took a job as a security contractor and spent 3 years working in Baghdad, Iraq supporting the US government. He has countless operations in and around Baghdad as both a team member and team leader of a mobile security team.
Once he got married, Bill put down his rifle to head back home to Ohio and start a business. He now owns and operates Eleven 10, a tactical nylon and Kydex gear manufacturer.
Also on the show…Eric Blehm to discuss the book FEARLESS
About the book:
FEARLESS takes you deep into SEAL Team SIX, straight to the heart of one of its most legendary operators.
When Navy SEAL Adam Brown woke up on March 17, 2010, he didn’t know he would die that night in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan, but Adam was ready: In a letter to his children, not meant to be seen unless the worst happened, he wrote “I’m not afraid of anything that might happen to me on this Earth, because I know no matter what, nothing can take my spirit from me.”
But long before Adam Brown became a member of the elite SEAL Team SIX-the counterterrorism unit that took down Osama bin Laden-there was a fun-loving country boy from Arkansas whose greatest goal had been to wear his high school’s football jersey.
An undersized daredevil, prone to jumping off roofs into trees and off bridges into lakes, Adam Brown was a kid who broke his own bones but would never break a promise to his parents … until he grew older, and his family watched that appetite for risk draw him into a downward spiral that eventually landed him in jail.
FEARLESS is the story of a man of extremes, whose determination was fueled by faith, family, and the love of a woman. It’s about a man who waged a war against his own worst impulses and persevered to reach the top tier of the U.S. military. Always the first to volunteer for the most dangerous assignments, Adam Brown’s final act of bravery led to the ultimate sacrifice.
FEARLESS is the intimate story of a devoted man who was an unlikely hero but a true warrior, described by all who knew him as just that-fearless.
Eric Blehm is the best-selling author of The Only Thing Worth Dying For, which recounts the harrowing story of the first Special Forces A-team to infiltrate Taliban-held southern Afghanistan weeks after 9/11. It was a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller. The author’s The Last Season, winner of the National Outdoor Book Award, was named by Outside magazine as one of the ten “greatest adventure biographies ever written.” Blehm lives in California with his wife and children.
