At The Gear Locker, we are always looking for different ways to carry equipment. And, as you can guess, we love to test out the different types of pouches that hold your personal medical gear. TGL was fortunate enough to be invited to DARK Angel’s 2-Day Tactical First Aid course (which you can read a review of here). While at the class, I was able to get my hands on one of their D.A.R.K. Angel Trauma Kit (2nd Generation). I have to say, it is a very compact kit. About the height of an M4 PMag (Dimensions: 8″ L x 3.5″ W x 2.75″ D Weight: 15.7 oz.) it will fit very nicely on a Plate Carrier, Chest Rig, or Battle Belt.
After the class ended, Kerry said to keep an eye out at the TGL receiving dock and a few weeks later a package arrived with a D.A.R.K Kit in Multicam inside. The craftmanship of the pouch is top-notch. DARK worked with the team at FirstSpear to design and build the pouch. When you look at the pouch you will see a Tourniquet outer pouch with a Velcro cover, MOLLE on the left and right sides, which allow you to secure your trauma shears (supplied with the kit), and a cover with a pull tab that holds your main pouch. When you open that pouch, you will see your vaccuum sealed first aid items and a long pull tab. This inner tab will allow you to pull the pouch of items out of the DARK pouch.
Now, you are probably wondering what you get with your D.A.R.K. Kit? Here is the list of goodies:
- 1″ Medic patch
- Trauma shears
- CAT
- Vacuum-sealed components:
- 1 pair Nitrile gloves, size Large
- 1 pair HALO Seals
- 1x Nasal Airway
- 1x 4” Israeli Bandage
- 1x QuikCLot Combat Gauze LE
- 1x H&H PriMed Compressed Gauze
Operation of the D.A.R.K Kit is easy to do one-handed. You are able to grab the cover’s pull tab and then using the inner pull tab, you can eject the first aid items, and then cut open the vaccum sealed pouch and use the necessary items.
You can also purchase new inserts from DARK Angel if you use your kit and run out. And, if you can product proper documentation that you used the kit as part of a rescue, the guys over at DARK will replace the refill for free.
