Hardened steel, heat, and constant sharpening create the perfect edge. This is the idea behind the survival, evasion, resistance and escape course. Or, so claims an instructor assigned to the 336th Training Group at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington.
And he may be right.
SERE is one of the most rigorous and difficult types of training our military has to offer. It takes courage, strength, and endurance to make it through. But, by toughing it through, battling the heat, and sharpening their skills, students can be prepared for almost any situation.
