San Francisco police are hunting for four suspects after a shooting sent a school into lockdown in the city’s Excelsior District Tuesday, sending waves of panic through parents and students.

Police said at least three students were shot at June Jordan School for Equity at 325 La Grande Ave. as school was dismissed for the day.

San Francisco Unified School District officials said the school immediately went on lockdown after gunshots were fired outside the school at 3:15 p.m. The lockdown was lifted at 4:03 p.m. and the scene has been declared safe by SFPD. Parents and grandparents came rushing to the school to make sure their child or grandchild was okay.

“I received a call from my son that there had been a shooting at the school, but thank god he’s not here, he’s in good hands, said Anna Alvarado, grandparent of a student at June Jordan.
