For those that carry a pocket knife and a money clip in their EDC, the new SOG Ultra C-Ti could be just what you need to serve both requirements. SOG has been a long time favorite of mine owning several of their products. From backpacks to tomahawks to folding and fixed blade knives and a multi tool. They all have one thing in common. Multi-use functionality. I’m not a fan of any utensil that serves only a single purpose. And when I saw the Ultra C-Ti at this years Shot Show, I knew I had to get my hands on it.

Fortunately, SOG is well represented by White Raven Communication, a PR firm that we love working with. And before long, a box from SOG arrived with a few new products to test. Utilizing some of my favorite exotic materials like carbon fiber and titanium, SOG designers were able to keep the weight of this mini folder to a mere 1.3 oz. About the same weight as 6 quarters in your pocket. Another design feature is the flat carbon handle maintaining an ultra low profile to minimize printing. Additionally, this flat surface is one of the reasons it can serve double-duty as a money clip.

Titanium money/pocket clip

Featuring an extra wide titanium clip for attachment to your pocket. Or to secure a few cards and cash before you head out the door. And let’s face it, sometimes the attire you wear doesn’t lend to carrying the typical EDC knife. This classy low profile folder can easily secure a few essential cards and disappear into a front pocket. The folded shape of the Ultra C-Ti is sized to fit into the small front coin pocket of most jeans. But don’t let the deminutive size of this knife fool you into thinking SOG compromised strength…anywhere.

Utilizing their patented ARC-LOCK mechanism which is tested to 1000 lbs of force, you can rest assured that the blade isn’t going to collapse during normal use. Located on the side of the handle, this spring loaded locking mechanism keeps fingers clear of the blade while folding. Measuring 2.8″ and forged from premium Japanese VG-10 stainless steel, the clip point blade is guaranteed to keep a sharp edge. Primarily found on high-quality cutlery blades, VG-10 can be sharpened to a fine durable edge all while maintaining a Rockwell hardness of RC 60.

Final thoughts: The Ultra C-Ti is an excellent option for the minimalist out there. I like the fact that it can fit into the small front pocket of my 5.11 Pants or jeans. This allows access to your front pocket without scratching the back of your hand on the knife. A huge plus for those SF guys! Additionally, combining the wallet I typically carry and a knife is a win-win in the summer while wearing shorts or lightweight clothing.
