The Colonel Count: List of 97 Russian Colonels and Lieutenant Colonels Killed in Ukraine

SOFREP presents you a list of Russian colonels and lieutenant colonels who have been reportedly killed in Ukraine. Russian sources such as propagandists, news sites, and Telegram Channels have not confirmed some of these names.

Note that the dates of their deaths may also be when their deaths were leaked to the public. Furthermore, the specific dates of when they were killed, especially when the war is ongoing, are difficult to confirm; thus, these dates may differ from source to source.

List of Russian Colonels Killed in Ukraine

37. Colonel Sergei Krasnikov was reported to be killed in action on June 15. Commander, Mortar Battalion, 40th Separate Naval Infantry Brigade, Pacific Fleet.

36. Colonel Sergei Postnov was reportedly killed in action on June 15. Propagandist, Head of the Information Response Group, 1st Department, Department for Interaction with the Media of Regardie.

35. Colonel Yaroslav “Chili” Shkurgan was reported killed in action on June 14. Commander, Sparta Battalion, 1st Army Corps, DPR Militia.

34. Colonel Ruslan Shirin was reportedly killed in action on June 8. Chief of Staff, 336th Separate Guards Naval Infantry Brigade.

33. Ret. Belarusian Colonel Nikolai Markov, reportedly killed in action, was shot down over Popasna on May 26. “Independent Pilot,” Su-25, Wagner Group.

32. Colonel Evgeny Mikhailovich Gerasimenko was reported killed in action on May 19. Commander, 45th Guards Spetsnaz Brigade, Deputy Commander, 1st Army Corps, DPR.

31. Colonel Alexey Leonidovich Smirnov was reported killed in action on May 16. Chief of Communications, 98th Guards Airborne Division.

30. Colonel Denis Vladimirovich Kozlov was reported killed in action on May 11 while crossing the Siverskyi Donets River. Commander, 12th Separate Guards Engineering Brigade.

29. Colonel Yuri Yuryevich Kukushkin was reportedly killed in action on May 5. 108th Guards Air Assault Regiment, 7th Guards Mountain Air Assault Division.

28. Colonel Eduard Pelishenko was reported heavily wounded sometime on April 26. Commander, DNR’s Militia Forces.

27. Colonel Vladimir Borisovich Kovalenko was reported killed in action somewhere in Mariupol on April 23. Department Head, Department of Internal Security, Ministry of Interior, DPR.

26. Colonel Ivan Grishin was reportedly killed in action, probably near Izyum, on April 18. Commander of Russia’s 49th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade (1st Tank Army).

25. Captain Anton Kuprin (Colonel equivalent) was reportedly killed in action on the Moskva on April 14 or 15. Captain, Guided Missile Cruiser Moskva, Flagship, Black Sea Fleet.

24. Colonel Mikhail Nagamov was reported killed in action on April 13. Commander, 6th Engineering Regiment, 45th Separate Guards Engineering Brigade, 1st Guards Tank Army.

23. Colonel Alexander Viktorovich Bespalov was reported killed in action on April 9. Commander, 59th Guards Tank Regiment, 144th Guards Motorized Rifle Division.

22. Colonel Ruslan “Stinger” Azizov was reported killed in action on April 3. Kadyrovite Commander, Death Battalion, DPR.

21. Colonel Alexey ‘Sledgehammer’ Statsenko was reported killed in action on March 31. Commander, 1st Slavic Armament Brigade (Donetsk), 1st Army Corps, DPR. Deputy Commander, 1st Army Corps, DPR.

20. Colonel Vladimir Ivanov was reported killed in action on March 25. Propagandist, Department of Information and Mass Communications, Russian Ministry of Defense.

19. Captain Andrey Nikolaevich Paliy was reported killed in action on March 20. Deputy Commander, Black Sea Fleet.

18. Colonel Nikolai Ovcharenko was reported killed in action in Izyum from March 20 to 23. Head of Engineer Troops, 45th Separate Engineering Brigade, 1st Guards Tank Army, Western Military District.

17. Colonel Alexei Nikolaevich Sharov was reported killed in action by a sniper in Mariupol from March 23 to March 26. Commander, 810th Separate Guards Naval Infantry Brigade.

16. Colonel Alexander Vokhmyanin Viktorovich was reportedly killed in action on March 18 or 19. Chief of Staff, 165th Artillery Brigade, 35th Combined Arms Army

15. Colonel Sergei Sukharev was reported killed in action on March 17. Commander, 331st VDV Guards Airborne Regiment (Kostroma).

14. Colonel Igor Evgenievich Nikolaev was reported killed in action in Kharkiv on March 16. Commander, 252nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Division (Valuyki).

13. Colonel Sergey Karasev was reported killed in action on March 11 (Unconfirmed). Commander, 31st VDV Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade (Ulyanovsk).

12. Colonel Andrei/Alexander Zakharov, reportedly killed in action in Brovary, March 10. Battalion-tactical group Commander, 6th Tank Regiment (Chebarkul), 90th Tank division.

11. Colonel Serhiy Trofimov was reported to be killed in action along with General Vitaly Gerasimov on March 7. Commander, 119th Rocket Brigade, 41st Combined Arms Army, CMD.

10. Colonel Vladimir Zhoga was reported killed in action on March 6. Commander, Sparta Battalion, DPR Militia.

9. Colonel Konstantin Zizevski/Zizevsky, reported killed in action March 5 to 7. 247th Guards Air Assault Regiment.

8. Colonel Viktor Ivanovich Isaikin was reportedly killed in action on March 2 in Ukraine. Commander, 200th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, 14th Army Corps, Northern Fleet.

7. Colonel Denis Yuryevich Kurilo, reported killed in action in Kharkiv, deserted his brigade on March 2, killed on March 29. Commander, 200th Arctic Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (Pechenga), 14th Army Corps, Northern Military District.

6. Colonel Ruslan Igorevich Rudnev, reportedly killed in action, March 1. Commander, 120th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (Donma).

5. Colonel Sergei Ivanovich Porokhnya was reported killed in action while deploying a bridge on March 18. Commander, 12th Engineering Brigade.

4. Colonel Yuri Medvedev reported to be wounded, feet/legs run over by his unit as protest, unconfirmed if dead, March 11. Commander, 37th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade, 36th Combined Arms Army.

3. Colonel Dmitry Sofronov, reportedly killed in action, March 6. Commander of the 61st Separate Marine Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces.

2. Colonel Konstantin Ogiy was reported killed in action on February 28. Head of Kemerovo SOBR unit, Rosgvardiya.

1. Colonel Denis Nikolaevich Shishov was reported killed in action crossing the Dnieper River in Kherson on February 26. Commander, VDV 11th Separate Guards Airborne Assault Brigade (Ulan-Ude), commander of the 76th Air Assault Division.

57. Lieutenant Colonel Zaur Dimayev was reported killed in action near Kamyshevakha on June 1. 4th Battalion of the Akhmat Kadyrov Special Forces Regiment.

56. Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Mikhailovich Nigmatullin was reportedly killed in Ukraine on May 31. Ikhtamnet artilleryman, unit unknown.

50. Lieutenant Colonel Denis Sukhanov was reported killed in action on May 17. Chief of Artillery, Unit Unknown.

47. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Pazinich. Reports of his death are unconfirmed. Some say he was killed on May 7. Deputy Commander for Military-Political, 14th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment.

46. Lieutenant Colonel Fyodor Solovyov was reported killed in action on May 7. Commander, 872nd Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment, 127th Motorized Rifle Division.

45. Lieutenant Colonel Artyom Alexandrovich Kormilitsyn was reported killed in action on May 5. Commander of an unknown motorized rifle battalion.

44. Lieutenant Colonel Fezul Bichikaev was reported killed in action on May 2 somewhere in Kharkiv. Deputy Commander, 228th Motorized Rifle Regiment, 90th Tank Guards Division.

43. Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Mikhailov was reported killed in action on May 4. KVAKU Graduate, Unit Unknown.
