Members of the Liberty Jump Team, a squad of commemorative, veteran jumpers, load into the “Placid Lassie,” a restored World War II-era C-47 Skytrain. They were preparing for a demonstration onto the Fryar Drop Zone at Fort Benning, Georgia, on April 4, 2019.

The jumpers wore service uniforms from World War II to the present day to honor their time in service. Fort Benning is the birthplace and home of the U.S. Army Airborne, and the event is in close coordination with 1st Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which conducts the Basic Airborne Course.

This year’s events were sponsored by the Atlanta chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association, but jumps are intended for all Airborne veterans, regardless of their service units.
